In the last few weeks I have heard, “be true to yourself,” or “be honest with yourself”. It brought to mind the Greek “Know Thyself”. It is a truth that we often let slide through our life without much thought because we don’t understand the implications. I think about my life and those who have influenced it over the years, both good and bad. I look back with dissatisfaction in just one thing. I didn’t remain true to a value who and what I let influence my identity. I allowed negative personalities, and much more to drain away who I was. Confidence waned in my ability to create, communicate, and take risks in a positive direction. It really hasn’t been until the beginning of March last year that mentality changed and I began striving to find the real me.

[singlepic id=1088 w=320 h=240 float=right]The depth of damage that had been done, inhibited business development and growth. Let me give an example. I like the finer things of life even though my income doesn’t allow them at this point in time.  Even still, I don’t allow the situation to affect who I am when it concerns matters of business. Knowing that I want my prints to be works of art, I have taken the time to choose print papers and processes that reflect the artistic me.[singlepic id=1090 w=320 h=240 float=Left]

The knowledge of who I am, my likes, dislikes, what drives me, and makes me happy is a building block when it comes to business.  I created a business plan, it has an in depth financial analysis and using the knowledge I can now take data and determine what it will cost me to create a series of portraits based on soundly educated assumptions. If I waffle on who I am and how can I decide if I want a tradition process to create Black and White prints on Fiber based Silver gelatin paper versus Resin coated, German Etching paper or even just a ink-jet print. I then relates to what it will cost. How will I tell the client what they are getting when I don’t even know myself. So take the time to be honest with yourself and know who you really are and then take the weaknesses and work on them, also don’t be afraid to ask for help where you don’t have the abilities to do it on your own. Most of all do what you love.[singlepic id=1089 w=320 h=240 float=right]
