The beginning of this year didn’t start out the way I intended. My plans were to be either in the middle of shooting or nearing the end of production for Invisible People – On The Street. Why is another part of this years adventure. I have a lot of time on my hands right now as I’m still on the mend from my injury. I know you’re wondering why the title, I am getting to it. Well with all of this time I have been able to study, research, spend time in my relationship with God…no am not going to go all Jesus freak on you. I don’t relate to Religious people. Yes I am a Christian. I won’t deny it, I am proud of it, and if people want to condemn me for my beliefs they don’t know me. They should get to know me! What I am sharing with you was put on my heart to do so.
Early Spring Cleaning - is about taking the time to look at life, business/work, and the passion the burns inside of you. Look at where you are standing right now in your personal life, business/work are you really happy with where you are standing? If not I am going to try and help you through some Early Spring Cleaning.
What do things look like in your surroundings?
I can be a very organized person, how ever to keep things organized takes some discipline. Looking back I have not been very disciplined. You may say, but I am a free creative spirit and being disciplined takes away from my creativity. I say oh contraire! How can you paint if your canvas is not on an easel. You look and it is lying under a stack of news paper clippings and other purported valuables, pizza boxes and the path to get to the stack is strewn with other clutter.
The clutter and news paper clipping are also metaphors of the good and not so good of what we do. The activities may be helpful yet are not is a sequence that gives priority to creativity and making the painting. I just wrote about Getting The Best Out Of Your Camera and if you have not read it yet, take a few minutes, I think it will be helpful.
Cleaning up the clutter-
Take out the trash! If things are literally a mess, then get rid of it, if you haven’t used it in the last year then it needs to go into the bin. Take the time to make sure you don’t toss any important papers. If find receipts mixed in, get an envelop and mark it with the year and if you have more than one year mark envelop for each of the years. The other thing you need to do is look at the things you do each day. The spam or junk mail activities. put them in the trash and get rid of them.
Organize-
Now that all of the junk and trash has been tossed into the bin (I don’t know why I like that phrase of putting stuff into the trash), you need to have a place and space for everything. How you do it needs to have some sort of reason to it, so that when you are looking for a specific item, it can be found easily. It also applies to your file storage system, key words for photographs, catalogs, and how you categorize what you do. If you find something is out of order fix it right now! Don’t wait to do it later. The caveat is, unless you have something else that takes precedence. If so, fixing the problem is priority number one. Looking at things right now there is a lot to. SO get to it and tomorrow I will go over issues that may be encountered.
The problems of organizing…
